Lathia P Banks Jr

As the son of mid-20th-century Renaissance man L. Paul Banks, Sr., Lathia P. Banks, Jr. had a front row seat to his father’s role in transforming Birmingham’s Titusville community into a small business mecca for African-American entrepreneurship during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. While attending Morehouse College in 1968, he was one of the student pallbearers at the funeral ceremonies for Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. After graduation, he pursued a career in community development, while supporting efforts to advance Black political power in Atlanta—a career that was cut short when he was falsely accused and imprisoned for several years for a crime he did not commit.
