Nathan Turner

Nathan Turner is the son of public-school educators who migrated to the South Titusville community in Birmingham after World War II. He was the editor of the Ullman High School newspaper and the first African-American graduate of the University of Alabama’s journalism program. His literary career included 40 years as a copy editor for the Birmingham News and AL.com; he has also published several books about local African-American heroes, including Rev. John Porter, Shelley “The Playboy” Stewart, and Evelyn Hardy, founder of the Gospel Harmonettes.
