Walter Jackson

Walter Jackson was born into a family of human rights activists, on 8th Street and 5th Avenue South in Birmingham’s Titusville community. As a boy in the 1950s, he attended, with his mother, early mobilizing meetings of the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights, the organization formed by Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth after the state of Alabama outlawed the NAACP. From early mass meetings, to Vietnam, Harvard Law, and the halls of local government, his life reflects both the promise and the pride of the Modern Civil Rights Move-ment.
