Vera W Stone

Vera W. Stone grew up in the Sessions subdivision of South Elyton in Birmingham’s Titusville community, and she witnessed the community’s evolution from single family homes to Little Korea and the Loveman’s Village housing project. She was one of the first nurses hired to work at Mercy Hospital (later Cooper Green Mercy Hospital) in Birmingham, then went on to a nursing career in the U.S. Army, retiring as an Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel. She is a lifelong member of South Elyton Baptist Church and sings with the Birmingham Mass Choir and Winfred Nichols Ensemble.
