John Harris

From a shotgun house just south of the Amtrak railroad crossing at Elyton in Birmingham’s Titusville community, John Harris’s family emerged as one of the first tenants to move into the newly constructed Loveman’s Village housing project in the 1950s. As the longest serving president of the North Titusville Neighborhood Association, he created a housing cooperative in North Goldwire and led the charge to remove blight, reject undesirable redevelopment, and revitalize North Titusville in an environmentally sustainable way.
