Eva Owens Carter

Eva Owens Carter, a retired educator, was a second-generation native of Birmingham’s Titusville community; her ancestors moved the family from Beta Street in the original Lincoln Park subdivision to Honeysuckle Circle. Dr. Carter recalls a complex community in which where people lived shaped how they were viewed by others in the community. She grew up in Westminster Presbyterian Church during the ministry of Rev. John Rice, Jr. the father of former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Later she would wed Westminster’s future pastor, Rev. Clyde Carter, who was a Freedom Rider during his college years in the 1960s.
