Barry McNealy

Barry McNealy is an Alabama educator and historian specializing in the Civil Rights Movement. He has taught high school social studies and history at Birmingham’s Parker High School and currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He works in multiple roles at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, including as a Historical Content Expert, and is actively involved in the Institute’s Legacy Youth Leadership Program. In 2024, he received the Virginia V. Hamilton Award from the Alabama Historical Association, which honors individuals who contribute to Alabama history in ways that foster greater understanding between historians and the public.
