Ann Jimerson

Sue Jimerson (sister of Ann Jimerson) lived in Birmingham for three years, 1961-1964, when her father directed a statewide civil rights organization. Though in elementary school, Sue was aware of the historic events in Birmingham during those years. She recalls her father’s connections with civil rights leaders and her parents’ teachings on the importance of treating people equally. Despite strict segregation, Sue was occasionally in “mixed” groups – being the only white child in her group at an integrated summer camp, accompanying her dad to a meeting sponsored by his organization, and at least once worshiping in a Black church in the Birmingham neighborhood of Titusville.
