Lillis Taylor

Lillis Taylor is a textile artist, design consultant, and art educator who lives in Birmingham and manages The March Quilts project, which commemorates the 1965 Selma voting rights marches; the project was born in 2015 (the 50th anniversary of the marches) as a collaboration among Bib & Tucker Sew Op, the UAB Department of Art & Art History, and the Birmingham Museum of Art, and yielded 461 quilt blocks that were stitched together by Sew-Op members and installed in the Selma Public Library and the Alabama Department of Archives and History in Montgomery. Each year since then, Sew-Op collaborators have chosen a civil or human rights theme and facilitated open sewing session and discussion; the blocks created during these sessions are then stitched into quilts.
