Elizabeth MacQueen

Elizabeth MacQueen, who grew up in Birmingham in the 1950s and 1960s, is the sculptor of the “Four Spirits” monument honoring the four young women who were killed in 1963 when Ku Klux Klan members bombed the 16th Street Baptist Church. The monument was unveiled in Birmingham’s Kelly Ingram Park in 2013, 50 years after the bombing. Elizabeth says that in the process of creating the monument, she learned things that were hidden from her when she was a child.
