Ann Jimerson

Ann Jimerson was a child when her father, Rev. Norman C. “Jim” Jimerson moved the family to Birmingham in 1961 to lead the Alabama Council on Human Relations. She and her siblings absorbed their father’s firsthand reports on all of the historic events that occurred during 1963, including the Children’s Crusade and the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church. Decades later, Ann started the organization Kids in Birmingham 1963, which brings together people, Black and white, who grew up in Birmingham during segregation and had no opportunity to know each other then. Today the group meets regularly and sponsors the Alabama History Coalition and other racial justice activities.
