Pamela Walbert Montanaro

Pamela Walbert Montanaro, the daughter of Birmingham human rights activist Eileen Walbert, grew up in Birmingham and participated in interracial activities during the 1960s; she made trips with her liberal friends to Miles College, an African-American college near Birmingham, to spend time getting to know African-American students. She also attended services and meetings at Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth’s church and, like her brother David and Ingrid Kraus, was labeled a “communist” by classmates at Shades Valley High School because of her open support for integration and racial equality. She is an accomplished actress who now lives in Berkeley, California.
