Deborah Miller Smith Harris

Deborah Miller Smith Harris remembers hearing the blast and the windows rattling when the 16th Street Baptist Church was bombed on September 15, 1963. Later that evening, she learned that the Klan had bombed the church and that four girls had been killed, including Denise McNair, the daughter of her beloved third-grade teacher. She says that her “nine-year-old mind could not comprehend the horrors of that frightful Sunday.”
