Jacquelin Clarke Bell

Jacquelin Clarke Bell (sister of Charlotte Clarke Houston) grew up in Birmingham in the 1960s; her father was Chuck Clarke, a popular jazz musician who is in the Birmingham Jazz Hall of Fame. She has vivid memories of two bombings in Birmingham: the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in 1963, when she recalls her aunt and other relatives coming to her grandmother’s house covered in ashes; and another incident two years later, when she and her family narrowly escaped a bomb planted outside Our Lady Queen of the Universe Church.
